Jasper’s Dr. Declan Unsworth finished first in the 126km “Leg Burner” race at the 10th annual Jasper Gran Fondo June 8.
The good doctor also burned the rest of the field on the Marmot Basin Road hill climb, registering the fastest time of more than 220 racers whose route included the 13 km, 700 metre elevation gain.
In the 190 km Forte Fondo, Edmonton’s Lucas Versluys crossed the finish almost 40 minutes faster than the second place competitor and in the 165 km Gran Fondo, Grande Prairie’s Mairen Lawson mopped the field with an average speed of 34.5 km/hr.
The real winners, however, were the future patrons and guests of the Jasper Yellowhead Museum and Archives, the official charity organization for the 2024 Jasper Gran Fondo. The event raised more than $1,600 for the JYMA.
