Introducing Fine Point Cedar Homes

How long have you been in business?

Doug and Barbara Pocha have been in business as Fine Point Cedar Homes for 25 years. Our predominant supplier is Lindal Homes, which was established 80 years ago.

This year, we are pleased to announce the addition of a panelized construction system to our offerings.  This new competitively priced, high energy efficiency construction line uses pre-built panelization and the highest quality of building materials.  Benefits include reduced labour, faster construction time and the highest of energy efficiency for your home. This airtight, prefab building system is the ultimate solution for easy and energy efficient construction. Perfect for achieving net zero and passive houses, it effortlessly meets all local building code requirements.

How many homes have you built?

As your local Design – Builder – Supplier and full service contractor, we have built approximately 175 homes across western Canada.

We are currently working on designing and rebuilding several homes in Jasper.  We have experience building in national and regional parks, environmentally protected lakes, oceanside, mountainside, and on the prairies.

We offer full-service construction: from walking the site on day one to complete construction to handing over the keys on move-in day.

How would you describe a typical custom home build?

Breathtaking!  We offer architectural designing to create any style of home, whether traditional, craftsman or contemporary styles. Architectural designing is included in our Fine Point Cedar Homes service — a cost saving advantage over hiring your own architect. Our homes stand the test of time; we offer a lifetime warranty on the Lindal materials package and a 10 year structural warranty on our Pacific Homes packages.

Through our Lindal dealership, our customers have exclusive access to our design partnership with the Frank Lloyd Wright Foundation.  Lindal’s Imagine Series homes unite the timeless, design principles of  Frank Lloyd Wright’s Usonian houses with current developments in technology, construction and design theory.

We provide insurance coverage protection on all projects with our New Home Warranty.

Can leaseholders provide their own plans, or do you only build from your own plans?

Yes! Leaseholders can most certainly provide their own plans!

We also offer an excellent selection of plans that can be tailored to our customers’ needs. We design, supply and build based on our clients’ desires, lot size, views, budget expectations, and wish list.  No two homes are ever the same; all are as unique as the customers we serve.

What standard features come with your homes?

Custom design is a standard offering, included with our services. Engineered Fir Post and beam construction is a standard feature, which allows full elevations of windows from floor to ceiling. Ceilings can be designed to any height, allowing for large soaring windows taking in those fantastic mountain views.

What options and upgrades are available?

Many features considered upgrades by other builders are standard to us. For example, our standard interior doors are a solid core with multiple profile, styles and wood types available.  We offer ViewRail ™ contemporary or traditional custom stairs. Oversize openings of patio doors can be accommodated. We offer an interior and exterior window finish that causes dust particles and raindrops to roll off without marks, making windows self cleaning. These windows are manufactured in Alberta in a state-of-the-art manufacturing facility.

We offer beautiful stone products for interior fireplace finish or exterior wall finish, including cost-effective mortarless options.  We also provide a beautiful slip resistant composite decking material in many colour choices, all manufactured in Canada.

What energy-saving features are in the homes you build?

We design every home for passive solar, including triple pane high energy efficient windows.  Through our LEED team, we offer options to exceed current energy code standards.  For example, a simple and cost-effective choice for new homes is to increase the R (insulative) value substantially through insulation upgrades.

We offer high energy efficiency options up to Net Zero design.

We offer our customers various heating options including geothermal heat, heat pumps, or high-efficiency gas furnaces. Solar panels with a backup generator are a standard option in a Lindal home.

How are you building to “climate proof” your homes?

The siding we offer is a composite, maintenance free material with a woodgrain or smooth profile. It is fire retardant, has some insulative value and comes pre-stained in your choice of colour, giving you that wood-look profile without the maintenance.  All profiles of cedar siding, aluminum siding, metal, or even stucco finish.

What efforts are made to shop locally for materials?

All our building materials are sourced from British Columbia, Alberta and Saskatchewan. Our custom windows are supplied by Durabuilt, manufactured in Alberta with personalized care and attention.

Our customers choose their interior finishings – cabinets, flooring, tiling, fixtures, etc. – from the suppliers of their choice, working with an interior designer of their choice.

Who will oversee construction?

We are a full-service builder offering services from start to finish.  We have a site supervisor at the building site daily.

We support full transparency throughout the building process through our web-based construction organizational software system.  “CoConstruct” is a builder’s software, personalized for each project. It helps our customers with scheduling, budgeting, specs and selection decisions, accessing files, plans and photos, and more.

How long will a home in Jasper take to build?

Depending on the size of the build, once the excavation starts, build time depends on the choices clients make.  With the Pacific Smart Wall, a high energy prefabricated wall system, construction time is approximately 4-5 months from start to move in ready.  With a stick build project, the time frame is usually 8 to 12 months from start to move in ready.

Get in touch with us. We would love to hear from you!
