Drug trafficking and weapons-related charges against two Jasper residents have been approved by the Alberta Crown Prosecution Service.
Since Jasper RCMP last advised the community about a six-month investigation which led to the execution of a search warrant at a Jasper residence, the seized drugs have been analyzed and confirmed as cocaine, methamphetamine, MDMA (ecstasy) and ketamine.
“These inherently addictive and toxic substances pose significant public safety concerns,” said Jasper RCMP Detachment Commander, Sgt. Rick Bidaisee. “Coupled with the use of weapons in their distribution, these substances greatly increase public safety concerns.”
RCMP have charged Kristen Leclerc (31-years-old) and Tristan Britton (38) with four counts of possession for the purposes of trafficking.
Additionally, Leclerc is charged with unauthorized possession of a weapon; possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose; and possession of proceeds of crime under $5,000.
The investigation, assisted by RCMP Western Alberta District Crime Reduction Unit, focused on the distribution of illicit street drugs in the Jasper community, according to Bidaisee.
Leclerc and Britton were both released on conditions. Alberta RCMP media relations officer Cpl. Mathew Howell said they are to appear at the Alberta Court of Justice in Jasper on April 11, 2024.
