Icefields Parkway reopened after avalanche work

UPDATED: The Icefields Parkway (Hwy93N) has been reopened.

The parkway was closed on Saturday, March 8 through to Monday, March 10.

A winter storm was forecast to hit Jasper and Banff National Park March 9-10, bringing as much as 45 cm of snow, according to Parks Canada.

“If the full force of this storm occurs, road closures may be required for Parks Canada staff to conduct avalanche control work between Athabasca Falls and Saskatchewan Crossing,” a memo sent at 2:41 p.m. Friday March 7 stated.

Parks Canada reminds motorists to Check 511.alberta.ca before your departure for more the most up-to-date road conditions and status of planned closures.

Weather conditions may change or anticipated snowfall be less than forecasted.
