Royal rumbling: 10 burgers, two winners, zero regrets

Indulge your senses and support Jasper at the 2025 Taste of Spring Festival

Ding ding ding! Let’s get ready for your stomach to RUMBLE!

Spring is in the air, local rafting companies are guiding clients down the river, and visitors and residents are revelling in a special season that is prime for a plethora of outdoor pursuits, sometimes all in the same day.

After you work up an appetite, indulge in Jasper’s Taste of Spring festival, taking place April 24-May 5.

Along with the bold flavours featured in the festival’s Alpine Bites and Summit Sips showcase, the transformative power of art at the UpLift! Jasper Mural Festival and the vibrant energy of Mariachi Loco at Sassy Sangria Saturday, the food-forward festival is debuting another crazy culinary contest, The Burger Smackdown.

Burger Battle

This heavyweight hamburger showdown—served hot by the same gourmands at Tourism Jasper who cooked up the popular, belt-loosening Poutine Showdown—brings together local restaurants in a friendly competition to craft the most mouthwatering, over-the-top burgers.

And since each mouthful supports a good cause, it’s practically an obligation that diners step into the ring and go bite for bite with participating restaurants.

(One dollar of each burger sold will be donated to the Jasper Food Bank).

An expert panel of judges (how do I get that job?) will crown the Best Burger, but the proletariat will have their say too, when diners cast their burger ballot for the People’s Choice Award.

So skip the seasonal fast, and lean into a Taste of Spring with Jasper’s hospitality industry. Plan your forage by checking out participating restaurants.

And if you have a favourite burger, bite or bevy from this year’s festival, send us a photo of you and your crew indulging to be included in a future festival wrap-up feature.
