Drug and weapons-related charges laid on two Jasper individuals last year have been dropped, according to the RCMP.
In March of 2024, drug trafficking and weapons-related charges against two Jasper residents were approved by the Alberta Crown Prosecution Service. The charges came after a six-month investigation which led to a warrant execution and seizure at a local residence, according to RCMP.
Seized drugs were confirmed as cocaine, methamphetamine, MDMA (ecstasy) and ketamine.
RCMP initially charged two individuals with four counts of possession for the purposes of trafficking. Additionally, one of the individuals was charged with unauthorized possession of a weapon; possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose; and possession of proceeds of crime under $5,000.
But in January, the file was closed, according to media relations officer Cpl. Matthew Howell.
“The charges were dropped,” Howell confirmed.
The Jasper Local has reached out to the Federal Prosecutor’s office in St. Albert to learn more about why the charges were dropped. We will update the story when that information becomes available.
