Arrests made after vehicle and credit card theft

Two individuals have been arrested after suspects fled a crime scene in Jasper.

Earlier today (January 3), Jasper RCMP received a report from a member of the public that their credit card had been stolen and that unauthorized transactions were being made within the community of Jasper.

Through their investigation, police obtained a description of the two suspects and a short time later, located the suspects in a stolen vehicle.

When police attempted to approach, the suspects fled the scene. A containment strategy was immediately enacted in the surround area and during this time it was discovered that a second vehicle had also been stolen.

The incident took place near the Fairmont Jasper Park Lodge. Officials closed the Maligne Lake Road for a period during the incident.

After a thorough search, police were able to locate and arrest one male and one female. They have been charged with multiple offences including:

  • Theft of motor vehicle
  • Possession of property obtained by crime
  • Breach of conditions
  • Dangerous driving
  • Flight from Peace Officer

Jasper RCMP would like to thank Parks Canada, the Municipality of Jasper, local Emergency Services and the public for their assistance and patience during this incident.
