A small (0.5 hectare) wildfire near Yellowhead Lake, just outside of Jasper National Park’s west border with B.C., has been extinguished.
At 7 p.m. on Saturday, May 24, 2025, Parks Canada provided support to the BC Wildfire Service in response to a wildfire just west of the park boundary, in the Yellowhead Lake area. This support was provided under the border-sharing agreement between the two agencies, according to BC Wildfire Service fire information officer Kim Wright.
“Crews from Jasper responded first…followed by two BC Wildfire Service parattack crews who were parachuted in,” Wright said.
The fire, which was near the CN Rail right-of-way, is listed as “suspected human-caused,” Wright said.
On Sunday, May 25, 2025 the status of wildfire was “contained.” It was listed as “out” yesterday (Monday, May 26).
There are currently no wildfires in Jasper National Park.
The fire danger rating within Jasper National Park is high, according to Parks Canada. The agency said in a Facebook post that Parks Canada’s initial attack crew are on duty and a helicopter is in the park.
