Rebuilding a historic community: Linwood Homes breaks ground

As part of its new Jasper Builds portal, The Jasper Local is providing builders the an opportunity to contribute sponsored content that we believe will be of interest to the community as it embarks on the rebuilding process.

Linwood Homes is proud to announce the company has officially broken ground in Jasper.

Lead construction project manager Chad Becker said the milestone marks a significant step forward in a community that has faced unimaginable loss.

As a community within a national park and therefore with limited development, Jasper used to have only a few construction projects start from the ground up every year. In the wake of the 2024 wildfire, many of the construction processes are being navigated anew. Linwood is committed to being a collaborative  partner to help guide procedures every step of the way, Becker said..

“We are honoured to be working hand-in-hand with the municipality to help navigate new and evolving procedures,” he said.

Linwood’s first build is on behalf of the Ereth family, who, like hundreds of other residents in Jasper, are starting over. That Emery and Brooke were present for a small but significant ground-breaking ceremony was a touching moment that brought together history, resilience, and a shared sense of joy, Becker said.

“Seeing them back on their property, watching as their foundation was dug, was a powerful  reminder of why this work matters. It brings me and so many others on our team a feeling of immense satisfaction.”

Currently, foundations are being dug on the Miette Avenue property. Pending inspections, Becker anticipates pouring concrete this week. With approvals, framing could begin within four to six weeks. Other builds will follow.

“Momentum is finally shifting and Jasper is starting to rebuild,” Becker said.

While progress is being made, challenges remain. Many properties are still under environmental  review, with contaminated soil flagged across multiple sites, creating delays for other homeowners.  But every project in the ground is a major step forward.

“We’re proud to be part of the solution, bringing experience, compassion, and a commitment to  quality to a community that needs all three,” Becker said.

“Linwood Homes is not just building houses, we’re helping to rebuild Jasper.”

Key benefits of prefabricated building

A major factor in Linwood’s ability to deliver homes efficiently – especially in a remote and highly seasonal location like Jasper – is their prefabricated building system. Linwood’s panelized wall systems are precision-built and pre-assembled, so they arrive on site easily and are ready to install. This cuts framing time in half and significantly reduces on-site waste.

Once the floor system is in place in a Linwood home, the company can install the exterior walls in as little as one day – compared to the multiple days required for traditional framing.

“This speed is critical in mountain climates where construction windows are limited,” Becker said.

Additionally, Linwood uses ICF (Insulated Concrete Form) foundations on these homes – an upgrade from conventional wood forms. ICF offers superior insulation, durability, and energy performance and has a higher R-Value rating – a measure of how well a material resists heat transfer.

“In other words, a material with a higher R-value provides better insulation, reducing heat transfer, which helps to keep indoor temperatures stable year-round. It’s another example of how our building method supports both long-term value and sustainable living,” Becker said.

“With this system, we’re able to complete most homes in just six to 12 months, depending on their  complexity and size.”

Linwood Homes build process in Jasper

Linwood’s efficient approach in Jasper also reflects the strength of the company’s collaborative build process.

By partnering with local experts like BEX Contracting, whose team brings valuable knowledge of Alberta’s unique permitting and inspection requirements, Linwood ensures that every home is built in line with regional standards.

On-site, the company’s dedicated project and construction managers work alongside a specialized site supervisor to keep progress smooth and consistent.

Throughout the process, the homeowners are kept informed every step of the way through Linwood’s project management software, which allows for daily check-ins, instant communication, and regular updates—complete with images of the site and notes of what was worked on each day.

Every two weeks, the homeowners are invited to walk through their home with our construction project manager to see their vision come to life in real time.

“From municipal approvals to organizing foundations and trades, our goal is to simplify what can otherwise be a very complex process in Jasper,” Becker said.

The Linwood construction process itself follows a clear and proven sequence: digging the foundation, pouring the foundation, framing the structure, completing the mechanical trades, and finishing the interiors.
