It is with love and sadness that the family of Marjorie Cooper announces her passing at Agecare Glenmore in Calgary on Wednesday August 20, 2025. She was 88 years old.
Marjorie was born in Wainwright, AB to Robert Irvin & Mary Grace Lewis. She was predeceased by her husband Charles William (Bill), her parents and her beloved brother Robert (Jean) Lewis and step-son Mark.
Marj first met Bill briefly in Jasper in 1953. They reconnected in 1964 then eloped on a locomotive. They raised their family in Kamloops, BC where they lived for 40 years before moving to Calgary in 2006, enjoying old and new friendships, taking many short camping trips, and regular trips to Jasper.
Marj and Bill organized and attended many “Jasper Daze” reunions, where one of their greatest joys was reuniting with family and old friends. She spent many hours on the computer studying her genealogy and left this as a legacy for her posterity. She was a member of the Order of the Eastern Star and enjoyed her time with her daughters and parents who were all actively involved. Another passion of Marjorie’s was her family’s heritage and love of the railroad, ever since her growing up days in Jasper.
She is survived by her daughters, Joanne (David) Caruso of Lethbridge, AB and Barbara (Graeme) Boman of Richmond, BC, sons, Doug (Veneta) of Stirling, AB, Paul (Karen) of Grande Prairie, AB, & Todd of Calgary; 10 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; and 1 great great grandchild along with many nieces, nephews and cousins.
There will be no funeral service as requested.
Marjorie and Bill’s final resting place will be in Jasper, AB at a later date. In lieu of flowers, please make a donation on Marj’s behalf to the Jasper Museum, Box 42, Jasper, AB TOE 1E0, or to the Veteran’s Food Bank or the charity of your choice.
