Who are you and why are you running for council?
I am a proud Canadian, originally from Ireland. I came to Canada in 1987 and made Jasper my home in 1990. For 30 years, my husband Jerry and I have been deeply rooted in this incredible community, enjoying everything Jasper has to offer.
My professional background is firmly grounded in tourism, finance, and community development. I began working with Jasper Tourism & Commerce, leading the Finance Department until 2006, when I became General Manager. In 2009, I joined the Grande Alberta Economic Region as a Tourism Development Specialist. Since 2011, I’ve been with Sundog Tours as the Finance Department Manager.
What are your top community priorities that you think Jasper Municipal Council has a role in shaping and why are these issues or themes important to you?
Prioritize fiscal responsibility amidst a high debt load due to wildfire recovery and past capital expenses.
Ongoing negotiations with Parks Canada on Land Use Planning and Development.
Launch of housing initiatives, including the first 40-unit development on Connaught Drive.
Support the rebuild of Pine Grove including a new Jasper Seniors Centre.
Advocate for a supportive home for young adults with disabilities, so they can continue to live in our community.
Reassess and streamline municipal programs and projects, adapting to a reduced population and tax base.
Can you share a decision or experience that shaped your commitment to public service and how it influences your approach today?
Council’s ongoing work with Parks Canada on Land Use planning and development and the Municipality of Jasper soon taking this portfolio, has certainly helped with the rebuild. We now have a joint task group of Parks Canada Town Planners and Municipality planners working together to move current process forward. The municipality has a 40 unit build on Connuaght Drive ready to start.
If elected, how will you ensure transparency and public engagement in your decision-making process
Over the past 12 years I have responded to the citizens of Jasper’s thoughts, requests and always represent that process in Council. I believe I have taken an open view to all information provided to Council and make a good decision that is best for our Jasper community. I believe strongly that local issues require local solutions.
What is one issue you believe isn’t getting enough attention in our community, and how would you address it?
We need to continue prioritize fiscal responsibility amidst a high debt load due to wildfire recovery and past capital expenses. We need reassess and streamline municipal programs and projects, adapting to a reduced population and tax base.
Please feel free to include a closing statement or sum up your platform.
The devastating 2024 wildfire changed our community forever—displacing families, seniors, and businesses. Much of our work remains unfinished. With 12 years of Council experience, I am ready to continue helping Jasper rebuild—physically, socially, and economically. With my 12 years experience I bring continuity, experience, and established relationships with the Alberta Government and regional stakeholders. I look forward to having Pine Gove rebuilt and welcoming our Seniors home.
