After stepping in to organize this year’s Canada Day festivities when no community group was available to take the lead, the Municipality of Jasper helped ensure one of the community’s biggest annual celebrations carried on uninterrupted.
Council approved the move this spring as a stop-gap measure, with staff using existing resources to deliver a full day of festivities while a longer-term approach to organizing Canada Day is explored.
The result was another vibrant celebration befitting Jasper’s reputation as an international tourism destination. From community groups and local businesses to hotels, tourism operators, Parks Canada and municipal representatives, dozens of colourful floats filled the Canada Day parade, drawing crowds of residents and visitors alike to celebrate the community’s spirit.
