It is with great sadness that the family of John Gordon Shredwick announces his passing on August 2, 2026 in Jasper, Alberta.
John was a beloved husband, father, grandfather, and friend. He will be lovingly remembered by his wife of 55 years, Loretta; children, Becky (Jocelyn) and Marty (Veronica); granddaughter, Sophie; mother-in-law, Della; and numerous extended family members and dear friends. John was predeceased by his parents, Alvin and Rosella.
Born on July 28, 1945 in Edson, AB, John was raised in Jasper and remained a lifelong resident of the community he loved. John dedicated 40 years of service to CN Rail as a proud, second-generation railroader. In life and work, John immersed himself in leadership roles within the community and the United Transport Union. Following retirement from CN, he proudly patrolled the Jasper Park Lodge Golf Course as a Player’s Assistant.
An exceptional pianist (for the few he would allow to hear him play), piano lessons in John’s formative years fostered an enduring love of music. Later acquiring a drum kit, he mastered the drums and backed his band, “The Fabulous Sonics”. For more than a decade, John was the lead side drummer for the Jasper Pipe Band, performing and competing across the province and Canada.
A social, outgoing man, John was larger than life and loved being surrounded by people. He had a passion for sports, especially cheering on the Edmonton Oilers and the Edmonton Elks. This passion also led John to dedicate 20 years to coaching minor sports in his community. With immense pride, he invested his time guiding youth to discover the bonds of teamwork and friendship.
John also knew how to enjoy the good things in life and valued the moments that brought people together. He loved spending time in Maui, sharing good times with family and friends, and making memories along the way. John had a gift for welcoming others, bringing joy and laughter wherever he went. Above all, he loved his family and his friends. John leaves behind a legacy of devotion to his community and enjoyment of life that will hold a special place in the hearts of all who knew him.
The Shredwick family extends their deepest gratitude to the staff at Seton Hospital in Jasper for years of dedicated, compassionate care and for ensuring John’s final days were peaceful.
