I’ve heard of the amendments that were being proposed to how Private Home Accommodations (PHAs) are regulated.

Over the last 40 years, I’ve stayed in likely 15 different PHAs in Jasper. None of the places we stayed in were hazardous. They were clean, contained fire alarms and featured large windows. Some had kitchens, others didn’t, but overall they were better than most hotels or motels in Alberta.

If Parks Canada takes these accommodations away, many families could not come to Jasper. My parents, who are seniors now, have always stayed in them. What would be even better is to offer more home accommodations which feature full kitchen suites. I believe it would bring more diverse tourists to Jasper. Isn’t it all about giving every Canadian an opportunity to visit Jasper and enjoy nature?

My family could not camp due to disabilities. The suite we found through the Jasper home accommodations association was essential to us choosing to visit Jasper. Because we did, we ate dinner at local restaurants, shopped in the local stores and took in all of the scenic sites.

Please consider this perspective before changing our much-loved home accommodations. Please pass this message onto Jasper officials.
