Alberta Government offering up to $100K to boost local festivals

Got a good idea for a new festival or event in Jasper?

The provincial government is inviting Albertans to apply for up to $100,000 through their Events and Festivals Fund to “reignite existing events and activate new ones that drive overnight visitation,” the website says.

Applicants would need to front-up with 25 percent of the total event cost.

“For example, a project budgeted at $120,000 could receive up to $100,000 from Travel Alberta, if the operator provides $20,000 in funding,” Travel Alberta’s Industry Hub says.

The money is prioritized for to local communities, associations and businesses hosting a two-day (or more) festival.

Minister of Tourism and Sport, Joseph Schow, said the idea was to foster “growth, innovation and sustainability within the tourism landscape.”

Travel Alberta CEO Jon Mamela encouraged all Albertans to use the funding to create “experiences that inspire travellers to choose Alberta and bring the benefits of tourism to communities in all regions of the province.”

Through Travel Alberta’s Tourism Investment Program, the provincial government invested more than $20 million last year to support tourism growth across Alberta.

Applications for 2024/2025 will open in early 2024, according to Travel Alberta. Check the government’s Events and Festivals fund portal to stay up-to-date.
