Letter: Thumbs down for paid parking infrastructure

As I just arrived today for my two-day stay here I’d be happy to pay for parking, IF I could pay.
The self-pay machine does not work, and I refuse to enter any credit card or other financial info and apps into my cellphone.
That leaves me completely unable to pay parking.
I left a note on my motorcycle explaining just that.

Oh, by the way, it is now about two hours ago that I scanned this silly thingy on my cellphone, and the webpage still has not completed loading.
Oh, and I ran into several people who were, just like me, very upset that your self-pay machine did not work while they took a photo of your out-of-order note.

You wanna be greedy? Good, but at least set up the infrastructure needed to suck in all that money.

The Municipality of Jasper responds

The Municipality of Jasper says there have been issues with the one paid parking kiosk.

“We are actively working with the service provider to get parts for it. Payment kiosks are checked daily by our staff and “out of order” signs get placed on them if and when there is an issue,” said Christine Nadon, director of Protective and Legislative Services.

Nadon said the town has a total of five kiosks downtown and that the signage and online payment options are functional.

“There are other options for payment,” she said.

“As a last resort, non-paid parking areas which are not assigned as resident permit only zones are always available to the public. This includes large areas of Connaught Drive on the train track side.”
