Introducing Linwood Homes

How long have you been in business?

Linwood Homes was founded in 1968 in Alberta. Our business is over 55 years old.

How many homes have you built?

We have built thousands of homes throughout North America. We are currently building in Vancouver Island, Shuswap, Gun Lake, Lytton, throughout the Sunshine Coast, Penticton and Caroline. We are currently in the process of building multiple projects in Jasper. We have specific experience working on fire rebuilds throughout Canada and we are able to strategically navigate the multiple entities involved including the municipality and insurance providers.

How would you describe a typical Linwood build?

A Linwood build is logistically efficient with faster build times due to our prefabricated material package. It is custom designed and finished, structurally stronger and more energy efficient. All materials for your home arrive on-site, ready for the build.

We have found our prefabricated material package to be very advantageous when rebuilding in communities impacted by wildfires. Often there is little to no access to high quality building materials, which can lead to delays or quality issues on site. Our prefabricated package ensures we have all the high-quality materials to build our customers’ homes as efficiently as possible.

Prefabrication is particularly beneficial in Jasper because it helps speed up the construction time with prefabricated wall panels going up faster than traditional stick-built homes.

Prefab uses components built in a factory as part of the on-site building process. The components are built in a controlled environment with detailed plans to meet a certain quality specification. The components are then shipped to site and assembled as a part of the on-site construction process.

Can leaseholders provide their own plans, or do you only build from your own plans?

Yes, leaseholders can provide plans. We can modify the plans as desired and provide the stamped engineered permit drawings for them. Leaseholders can also choose from hundreds of designs in our design gallery.

In Jasper, we currently have two pre-designed homes that meet the Jasper architectural controls and fire code. This means faster design time to permit ready drawings!

What standard features come with your homes?

  • Kiln dried, j-grade, export quality dimensional lumber (from BC)
  • D-fir exposed posts and beams (renowned for our vaulted ceilings and view windows)
  • Insulated concrete forms (ICF) foundation

The structural material package includes:

  • Premium grade framing lumber
  • Floor system
  • Roof system
  • Siding & trim
  • Windows
  • Roofing material
  • Exterior doors
  • Prefabricated wall systems
  • Permit and construction plans

A complete list of everything included in our home packages can be found on the services page of our website.

What options and upgrades are available?

We offer fully custom capabilities so any upgrades and modifications can be added to your project.

What energy-saving features are in the homes you build?

We incorporate a wide range of energy-saving features into the homes we build, including:

  • Double-glazed low-e argon windows
  • Effective R-37 walls
  • R-50 flat ceilings
  • R-30 vaulted ceilings
  • Optional rigid exterior insultation
  • Optional solar panels

Our team has experience building completely net-zero homes; we remain committed to creating energy-efficient designs tailored to each client’s needs.

Achieving high energy efficiency can be done in various ways depending on what our clients prioritize—for instance, maintaining large view windows while adding rigid exterior insulation to preserve both efficiency and aesthetics.

We currently build to a higher standard than Alberta’s building code and strictly adhere to local requirements such as Jasper’s fire code restrictions.

How are you building to “climate proof” your homes?

Aside from the fire code mandates of non-combustible material within 5 meters of the home, we include a standard rain screen and vapour barrier to mitigate any water penetration, as well as frost walls for all footing and foundations.

What efforts are made to shop locally for materials?

All of Linwood’s material and interior finishes are sourced locally and within Canada. We have secured an agreement with the local Brick in Hinton to offer contractor pricing on appliances. Linwood Homes is proudly Canadian and we are strongly committed to using local products.

Who will oversee construction?

A combination of our Project Manager, quality control teams, and our Hinton lead contractor (BEX Contracting ) who will provide on-site supervision.

How long will a home in Jasper take to build?

Depending on house size, from first shovel in the ground to handover of your keys, the timeline is around 8-12 months.

A typical 2500 square foot two storey with finished basement would be 9 months to completion. We typically suggest getting started before September. If you are looking to build in the spring, we can lock-in our material prices until the end of the year on signed contracts.
