Jasper evacuated due to wildfires

EVOLVING SITUATION: CHECK ALBERTA EMERGENCY ALERTS, JASPER NATIONAL PARK and MUNICIPALITY OF JASPER social media for the most up-to-date information


The Municipality of Jasper and Jasper National Park have issued an Evacuation Order.

There are multiple wildfires burning in Jasper National Park including approximately 9 km east of Jasper at the Jasper Transfer Station and at Athabasca Falls hostel, approximately 25 km south of Jasper.

Highway 16 east and the Icefields Parkway (93 N) are closed to traffic.

Highway closures:

Highway 16 is closed at Highway 40.

Highway 93 is closed at the Columbia Icefields to all traffic.

Travellers south of Saskatchewan Crossing should travel south.

Travellers north of Saskatchewan Crossing should travel north.

All traffic in Jasper should travel west.

Evacuations have taken place at:

Athabasca hostel

Wabasso Campground

Kerkeslin Pit

Snaring campground

Snaring overflow

Palisades Stewardship and Education Centre

Measures are underway to protect the safety of people and property.
