Parkway closing for avalanche control work

Parks Canada is temporarily closing the Icefields Parkway today (Saturday, December 7) for avalanche control.

The Icefields Parkway (Hwy 93N) will be closed from 12 p.m. to 4 p.m. from Parker Ridge to Big Bend.

“This will allow necessary avalanche control work to safely take place,” a media statement reads.

The parkway will be opened sooner, if conditions are safe to do so, the agency said.

Check 511.Alberta.ca for up to date road conditions.

Parks Canada’s information on how the Icefields Parkway is managed, is available here.

Backcountry users should check avalanche.ca for updated conditions.
