RCMP charge Hintonites after seizure of fentanyl

Two residents of Hinton have been charged with possession of a controlled substance for the purpose of trafficking.

In January 2025, acting on information received from the public, Hinton RCMP Crime Reduction Unit (CRU) executed a warrant at a Hinton address, arresting two individuals and seizing contraband.

RCMP confiscated 30 grams of fentanyl, eight grams of cocaine and smaller amounts of other drugs, according to Public Information Officer, Cpl Matthew Howell.

Wesley James Baldwin Clare (38) and Haley Elizabeth Sjovold (32) were charged with two counts of possession for the purposes of trafficking. Additionally, Clare was charged with trafficking in a controlled substance. RCMP said they were brought before a justice of the peace and released on conditions. They are to appear before the Alberta Court of Justice in Hinton on June 18.

Hinton RCMP Detachment Commander Staff Sgt. Shiloh Fragomeni thanked the public for coming forth with information that allowed his team to start the investigation.

“This investigation highlights how good information, paired with specialized units such as Hinton RCMP CRU, can help keep our communities safe by removing drugs from our streets and arresting those responsible for trafficking them,” Fragomeni said.
