Seventeen candidates will compete for six councillor positions this Monday, October 20.
Nominations closed today (Monday, September 22) at 12 p.m. Elections Alberta returning officers for the Municipality of Jasper, Christine Nadon and Lisa Daniel, said the last day for nominations saw one final candidate file papers. The list is unofficial and will remain so for 24 hours.
“Candidate names become official at 12 p.m. tomorrow, [Tuesday, September 23, 2025],” Nadon said.
In order of their notice of intent being filed, the unofficial candidate list for council includes:
Wendy Hall, Gilly Thomas, Richard Ireland (mayor), Kathleen Waxer, Ted Turnbull, Laurie Rodger, Jason Stockfish, Helen Kelleher-Empey, Shawnee Janes Wilson, Ashley Kliewer, Ralph Melnyk, Stephen Brake, Yves Marchand, Adam Hvisc, Paco Artiaga, Danny Frechette, Kable Kongsrud and Neal Meints.
Current councillors Rico Damota and Scott Wilson did not let their names stand for public office in 2025.
Current Jasper Mayor, Richard Ireland, is the only candidate who has filed nomination papers for the mayor’s position. He will be acclaimed after the candidate list becomes official, Nadon said.
The Jasper Park Chamber of Commerce is hosting an All-Candidates Forum on October 7 from 6:30 p.m. – 8:30 p.m. in the Multi-Purpose Hall at the Jasper Activity Centre (303 Bonhomme St.)
