A Hinton resident has been charged with manslaughter in a death that occurred at the Jasper Legion.
On September 27, 2025, at approximately 1:17 a.m., Jasper RCMP responded to an altercation at the Jasper Legion. Upon arrival, a male was located on the ground, requiring medical attention.
The incident resulted in the death of 56-year-old Douglas Gunville. Gunville had been a resident of Jasper and Valemount, B.C..
The RCMP Major Crimes Unit was brought into investigate the altercation and the Edson RCMP Forensic Identification Section was called in to assist. On Thursday, October 2, RCMP released a statement that the investigation has determined the death to be a homicide.
“An autopsy was conducted by the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner in Calgary, who ruled the death a homicide,” said Cpl Mathew Howell of the Alberta RCMP Media Relations team.
As a result of the investigation, Josh Myhr (29), a resident of Hinton, Alta., has been charged with manslaughter. RCMP said Mr. Myhr was brought before a justice of the peace and was released on conditions.
