Fairmont Jasper Park Lodge is in the spotlight once again.
The iconic property’s general manager, Garrett Turta, has been named the 2025 Hotelier of the Year by Historic Hotels Worldwide, a collection of more than 320 historic hotels and treasures in 44 countries.
Turta, who has been JPL’s GM for three years, was recognized for guiding the Fairmont Jasper Park Lodge through some of its most defining moments in the property’s history.
“His leadership was especially felt during the 2024 Jasper wildfires, when he led his team and the community to overcome the impacts of the historic resort and safeguard its future,” a media release stated.
Turta said receiving the recognition is a reflection on the team at the Fairmont Jasper Park Lodge.
“Fairmont Jasper Park Lodge’s story is deeply rooted in community and a deep connection to nature,” he said. “This award is a testament to the strength, passion, and spirit of the remarkable team that brings that story to life every single day.”
The Hotelier of the Year Award is considered the highest distinction within the Historic Hotels Awards of Excellence. It honours individuals whose leadership and vision elevate the craft of hospitality while safeguarding the cultural and historical essence of iconic properties, according to Historic Hotels Worldwide.
Since its opening in 1922, the 700-acre mountain resort’s “Grand Canadian Lodge Experience” has welcomed guests from around the world.

After the July 22 evacuation due to wildfire, on October 1, 2024, Jasper Park Lodge reopened to guests. During the month of October 2024, Fairmont donated 100 percent of resort fees to local recovery efforts
Since then, the business has shown “remarkable resilience,” and guests have continued to enjoy their experiences at the lodge and surrounding park, Turta said.
Turta is today leading the resort into a multi-million-dollar, full-scale renovation of the historic hotel.
