Fairmont Jasper Park Lodge has earned a spot on National Geographic’s inaugural list of the Best New Hotels in the World, putting the Jasper resort among a collection of newly opened or renovated properties from around the globe.

The recognition comes two years after the historic lodge was badly damaged in the 2024 Jasper wildfire.

National Geographic highlighted the 104-year-old resort’s reopening following a multimillion-dollar renovation, noting how the updated property incorporates elements inspired by its natural surroundings in Jasper National Park.

“Blue hues throughout the lodge echo the colours of Lake Beauvert and Whistlers Mountain, while carved wood, natural textures and work by Canadian artists reinforce the connection to place,” the article’s author gushes.

The magazine also singled out the resort’s revamped culinary offerings, including three new restaurants, as well as its range of outdoor experiences.

The resort’s “wellness without walls” philosophy also incorporates the landscape itself, with experiences such as cold plunges in Lac Beauvert followed by sessions in an outdoor barrel sauna.

But it was Jasper’s night sky that particularly caught National Geographic’s attention.

The lodge sits within the Jasper Dark Sky Preserve, giving guests opportunities to experience the northern lights and stargaze through powerful telescopes at the on-site Jasper Planetarium.

National Geographic described the reopened resort as offering guests “renewed access” to one of Canada’s darkest skies.

The recognition places Fairmont Jasper Park Lodge alongside new and newly renovated hotels in destinations including Fiji, Rwanda, Montana and Japan.
