A Christmas Ode to Jasper’s Seniors

Our Seniors know their way around
They’re the ones who built our town.
Through their sweat, through their toil
They planted roots in rocky soil.

The streets, the stores, the homes, the parks
the businesses where commerce sparks.
But far beyond and deeper still
they paved a path with social skill.

With kindness, grace and wisdom earned
they blazed a trail from which we’ve learned:
it’s human ties that bind our town
supporting neighbours through up and down.

Our seniors all deserve our praise
for teaching us those treasured ways.
From days long past, through last year’s fire:
in unity we all rise higher.

The lasting lesson our seniors teach
is collectively we extend our reach.
We achieve new heights by standing tall
upon the shoulders that precede us all.

This Christmas time and through the year
let’s show our seniors we hold them dear.
Let’s celebrate that bar they’ve set
and strive to reach the heights they’ve met.

Warm Christmas cheer to those who’ve blessed
and worked to make our town the best.
The Jasper Seniors we venerate
the ones who make our home so great.

-Jasper Mayor Richard Ireland, December 2, 2026 – as read at the annual Jasper Seniors Luncheon at the Fairmont Jasper Park Lodge
