A 62-year-old man from Hinton has been charged with possession of child pornography.
A year and a half after Alberta’s Integrated Child Exploitation (AICE) Unit received a tip that explicit images had been uploaded to Amazon Photos, a search and seizure at a Hinton residence led to an arrest.
The tip was submitted in June, 2024, to AICE, according to Alberta RCMP. After initiating the investigation, in December 2024, AICE transferred the file to Hinton RCMP. In April 2025, Hinton RCMP members executed a search warrant for a residence in Hinton.
“During the search, a suspect was arrested for obstructing and assaulting a police officer,” said Cpl Mathew Howell of Alberta RCMP’s media relations. “The search resulted in seizing multiple electronic devices to be searched for evidence.
“RCMP was able to search the devices and locate child pornography,” Cpl Howell said.
As a result of the investigation, on January 27, 2026, William Descalchuck (62) was arrested and charged with possession of child pornography; obstructing a police officer; and assaulting a police officer.
Descalchuk was brought before a justice of the peace and released on conditions. He is to appear before the Alberta Court of Justice in Hinton on February 18, 2026, according to a February 4 statement issued by Hinton RCMP.
