More interim housing parcels are being prepared in Jasper.
Lot 2 Block A, next to the Jasper Yellowhead Museum and Archives, will soon be used for eight Parks Canada-procured units of interim housing, according to the Jasper Recovery Coordination Centre.
The eight units, which will be built by Corrections Canada (CorCan) as part of a prisoner skills-building program, will each contain two bedrooms and one bathroom.
“Allocation of the units will follow the JRCC interim housing prioritization matrix, with a focus on families with school-aged children,” a JRCC spokesperson said.
Once their function as interim housing has come to an end, the units will be relocated to Whistlerville—Parks Canada’s seasonal operational housing adjacent to Whistlers’ Campground which was destroyed in the 2024 Jasper wildfire.
In addition to the lot next to the museum, lands have been made available in the middle of Patricia Circle (six prefabricated home units are planned for three lots); and near the Jasper United Church (for approximately 13 trailers).
“This additional land will provide about 40 more homes for Jasperites working to rebuild their lives,” the MOJ’s website states, noting the goal is to have all in-town housing in place and occupied by October, 2025.
As of July 1, 2025, 510 residents (260 households) were living in interim housing. Paving and landscaping is under way on existing in-town interim housing sites.
