Jasper photographer Simone Heinrich captured an evening of aurora activity recently.
On Friday (April 18), when most people were crawling into bed, Heinrich stepped outside to check out the night sky. She could see faint hints of northern lights, but…just barely.
“They weren’t very strong and my camera struggled to capture them,” she said.
So she headed back in, thinking she’d call it a night—but as she turned to go inside, the aurora suddenly intensified, dancing above the houses.

So Heinrich got her boots on and drove out to one of her favourite viewing spots near Pyramid Lake. She was glad she did.
“The lights came alive, dancing across the sky with stunning waves of green, and purple and pink,” she said.

“It’s always so beautiful to watch—I could sit there for hours, just staring up at the sky in awe.”
