Serving up local talent on Canada Day in Jasper

The Municipality of Jasper, the Jasper Canada Day Committee and local partners are serving up an all-day buffet of community spirit on July 1.

The Municipality of Jasper is taking care of the pancake breakfast from 8:30 to 10:30 a.m. in Commemoration Park. The cost is $5 (cash only). To reduce waste, participants are asked to bring their own plate and cutlery.

Let them eat cake

Next, community members and visitors are invited to the Jasper Royal Canadian Legion to kick off the ceremonies with a flag raising ceremony, anthem singing and cake cutting at 11 a.m.

Special guests and dignitaries will be on hand.

Wild and Free

The popular Canada Day parade starts at 1 p.m. and features the theme “Wild and Free.” The parade does a slow loop around the townsite, starting on Pyramid Lake Road outside of the Jasper Activity Centre, heading westbound on Connaught Drive, south on Hazel Ave and culminating on Patricia Street and Elm Ave at 2 p.m. Find your place streetside and watch the floats and groups as they pass by.

Parade reminders:

-No parking in the downtown area between 10:30 a.m. and 3 p.m. on July 1

-Avoid crowding in front of road side patios

-Ensure children do not run onto the road

Picnic in the Park

The Jasper Canada Day Committee has a locally-inspired list of talent to help bring the celebrations into the afternoon and evening.

Starting at 3 p.m., local musicians will entertain the crowds at Commemoration Park.

For the kids there will be bouncy castles and lawn games. For the adults there will be a beer garden. Food vendors and BBQ will be available for everyone.

Canada Day shopping

A Canada Day artisan market will take place at Robson Park from 2-5 p.m.
