A major investment from one of Jasper’s largest tourism employers will help bring 22 new childcare spaces to local families, addressing a longstanding community challenge that has affected parents, employers and the broader local economy for years.
Pursuit has committed $400,000 toward the Municipality of Jasper’s planned expansion of the Wildflowers Childcare program at the Jasper Activity Centre. The contribution, made through the company’s Jasper Tourism Recovery and Prosperity Fund, will support the creation of 22 new full-time childcare spaces as well as a new second-floor community space overlooking the gymnastics facility.
Construction is expected to begin in fall 2026, with the new childcare spaces projected to open in September 2027.
The municipality says the expansion responds directly to priorities identified in its 2023-2027 Community Childcare Strategy, which found that access to childcare remains one of the most significant barriers facing Jasper families. The strategy concluded that limited childcare availability affects not only parents, but employers, workforce participation and the community’s long-term sustainability.
For many local families, securing a daycare space has meant joining waitlists that can stretch for years.
Jasper’s Chief Executive Officer Bill Given said council has made supporting families, strengthening community connections, and building a more resilient local economy clear priorities for the Municipality.
“This project puts that direction into action,” Given said. “Pursuit’s significant contribution demonstrates how strong relationships and collaboration can help build an even stronger future for Jasper; one where families can build their lives and residents of all ages have opportunities to connect and belong.”
In addition to expanding the Wildflowers program, the project will create flexible community space for local organizations and municipal programming, along with a viewing area for the gymnastics facility.
The municipality says the project will be funded through Pursuit’s contribution, the municipality’s approved 2026 capital budget and additional external funding partners.
Pursuit’s contribution forms part of the company’s previously-announced $3 million pledge to Jasper Tourism Recovery and Prosperity Fund, established following last summer’s wildfire.
“Pursuit has been a proud part of the Jasper community for many years. Our team members live here, raise their families here, and are deeply committed to seeing this place thrive,” said Jordan Bell, Pursuit’s vice-president of operations for Canada.

“Like many others in Jasper, some of those families wait years for a daycare spot. This $400,000 contribution to the Wildflowers Daycare expansion is part of our ongoing investment in a community we are privileged to call home.”
The announcement represents the largest single corporate contribution toward childcare infrastructure in Jasper’s history and comes as local businesses continue to grapple with housing and workforce shortages following the 2024 wildfire.
Access to childcare has also become an increasingly important economic issue for the community. The municipality’s childcare strategy notes that a lack of available spaces can prevent parents from returning to work, complicate employee recruitment and retention, and limit opportunities for businesses seeking to fill vacant positions.
The Wildflowers expansion is intended to ease some of those pressures while maintaining the program’s existing staffing standards and play-based early learning model.
While the additional 22 spaces will not eliminate Jasper’s childcare shortage, municipal officials say they represent a meaningful increase in capacity and an important step toward meeting demand.
Renderings of the project are expected to be released as the design phase progresses.
