It was a wrap on a successful fundraiser when the Jasper Ladies Golf Club presented a cheque to the Jasper Cancer Action and Support Group.
The Jasper Ladies Golf Club’s annual Lena Baxter Memorial Tournament, held July 4 at the Fairmont Jasper Park Lodge Golf Course, raised $3,130 through raffles, 50/50 draws, silent auctions and donations.
This year, the club chose to donate the proceeds to the Jasper Cancer Action and Support Group, which provides financial assistance to local residents dealing with cancer and the additional costs that can come with treatment.
Tournament organizers Shelby McQueen, Nick Armour and Hilary Olson presented the cheque to the group during a recent movie-themed Ladies Night.
For the organizers, being able to direct the tournament’s fundraising toward a local cause made the event particularly meaningful.
The donation is also welcome news for the volunteer-run cancer support group, which has been working to rebuild its funding sources following the loss of the Jasper Heritage Rodeo as a major fundraiser.
“It has been overwhelming to receive so much support this year from many local groups,” said Heather Wall, steward of the JCASG.
The group was established in 2005 and continues to provide support to Jasper residents facing the financial challenges that can accompany a cancer diagnosis.
The Lena Baxter Memorial Golf Tournament is an annual event organized by the Jasper Ladies Golf Club. Next year’s tournament will take place on Saturday, July 10 at the Fairmont Jasper Park Lodge Golf Course.
